6 Feet Apart TRIO

This TRIO was made up of Jazz Performance students from the University of Toronto. They met during their first year, which had been entirely on-line. They formed this TRIO during the COVID-19 global pandemic in the winter of 2020 - 2021.

In the face of many technological obstacles when it comes to group performances on-line, the members of this group challenged their musical skills and wanted to bring back their love of performance. Each member recorded their part separately and their parts were combined to produce three pieces. The Trio submitted their pieces to the 2021 Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival and were awarded a spot. This event was the TRIO's first and only performance.

Since the opening of various venues and the loosening of Covid restrictions, the members of the group have gone on to do other musical endeavours or continue their studies.

Maddie Zeidenberg Jazz Band

The Maddie Zeidenberg Jazz Band was an improvisatory collective of five young musicians brought together in their York University Jazz Workshop in 2019, under the direction of pianist, Mark Eisenman. There they discovered a mutual passion for their music and the joy of playing together and decided to continue playing after their workshop ended. The band consisted of Matheus Caldas on guitar, Drake Metcalf on bass, Michael Mintchev on drums, Elliott Barenthin on piano and Maddie Zeidenberg on vocals.

The band had the opportunity to perform at the 2020 Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival and various venues throughout Toronto, including Hirut Cafe and The Emmet Ray.

Some members of the group continued their education at York University and others transferred to the University of Toronto and Humber College. After continuing to play together for just over two years, some of the musicians have graduated and others have moved on to pursue other musical endeavours or continue their studies.
